Upcoming Gunning Lecture by Prof. Troels Engberg-Pedersen, University of Copenhagen

On Thursday 16 April at 5:00pm in the Martin Hall, New College, there will be an occasional Gunning Lecture by Prof. Troels Engberg-Pedersen, University of Copenhagen, on the topic “Paul, Stoicism, and the Material Spirit.” I am thrilled about this event, having worked for some time with the Gunning Lectureship committee to try to bring Prof. Engberg-Pedersen to Edinburgh. (Thanks go to my CSCO colleague Prof. Timothy Lim for helping to make it happen.) Engberg-Pedersen’s monographs Paul and the Stoics (T. & T. Clark, 2000) and Cosmology and Self in the Apostle Paul (OUP, 2010) are landmark contributions to Pauline studies, not to mention his similarly important work on Aristotle, Stoicism, and the Gospel of John. The lecture is open to the public. There will also be a private session with Prof. Engberg-Pedersen for Edinburgh postgraduates, on which details forthcoming.
