This topic carries a lot of emotional weight for me. My dissertation was quality work, but because I took too long finishing it, by the time I submitted it for to a publisher that had earlier focused their efforts on my methodology, they rejected it by saying they had moved away from that method. Disheartened, I never submitted it again and left the profession.
